Junior Detectives: Teaching with primary sources

Primary Journals, letters, diaries archives of history speeches, scrapbooks, audio recordings photographs, government publications newspapers and magazines artifacts, clothing, costumes Sources A poem is a form of rather expressing the big ideas of something or someone. although it can be confusing and maybe hard to help the elementary kid understand, primary sources can sometimes be confused with secondary sources. In the article we observe how the teacher uses a creative way of creating interest in the topics by making them "detectives" which is a very fun activity. Nonetheless, my poem focuses about what they are and where they are found, which can help students differentiate between primary and secondary sources.

Critical Literacy for young citizens

Holidays are a very sensitive topic to introduce to in a classroom given how diverse classrooms are today. The main topic in the article is to make sure students are being critical thinkers and using these skills to investigate what might of happened in the past and how history has shaped our culture in the present. Although, it is a very thoughtful form of creating ideas, and helping children see social studies from a different perspective. How can we explain this in a different manner? How can we make our students critical thinkers? If their cultural background does not believe in thanksgiving, and their religion is rather different. Columbus and the Indians

In this rather educational video, that many teachers might use as a resource to introduce Christopher Columbus in their classrooms. I think this video is very tricky, because it shares out details about Columbus's voyage and the people that he admired. Although it is mentioned in this video how his people took the island from the Indians, gold, and made some slaves, it somewhat still made him seem like he did something great by "discovering" the Americas. This focuses heavily on what he and his people did as far as travel plans, what islands they found and the main goal which was return gold to Spain. However, I do think that for children is hard to teach the ugly, dark, and reality of who Columbus really was. Therefore, I believe it should be a topic that schools should not touch heavily on, or even mentioned due to the harsh reality of all the damage he caused and the horror his troops caused. As a child I too thought Columbus was this great explorer who made this di...
