Chapter 2
History repeats itself, in many ways it is because we do not
learn from past mistakes. In Chapter 2 Learners and Learning, we get
asked the question of how does the elementary-kid know about social studies? And
the reality is they do not know it. Kids know simple facts, or what they see in
their everyday life and experiences. However, kids do not the deep
understanding of social studies and how everything or most things work. A
result of this is because social studies is being put in the back burner in many
schools, we are focused on curriculum and test standards that in many grades we
fail to actually give the student factual information that can help them in the
future. This cartoon relates a lot to me because I can see the mistake that
many teachers have made and how it has affected me, and I do not want to repeat
this history. I want my future students to be grounded and mindful of how
things work, and have background information that will help them in their future
courses.
