Black Ants and Buddhist Chapter 1

Toxic Culture of Education: Joshua Katz.

This particular Ted Talk hit home in various ways, one for the main reason is that there is a society standard that everyone must go to college, and everyone must succeed in their academics which causes many students to lack knowledge of a topic and learn it appropriately, which is most commonly known as the banking system. I can particularly relate this video to our reading because of how students are portrayed and the devaluation of education as it is stated in the article “the students are viewed as ignorant, empty receptacles, to be filled with deposits of knowledge, provided by the teacher”. Most importantly because the main focus are curriculum and state standards many times us as teachers fail to provide children with the right education and help them become the individuals, they are ought to be.
Overall, as a future educator I am terrified of what my classroom might become. Maybe my idea of teaching is about truly making sure students have their minds filled with incredible knowledge, but if cannot break the cycle the education system is in, I too will fail to make a difference.
